Oxford is a small town located in the county of New Haven, and is one of a cluster of small towns in the area. Oxford was once a very rural town that had a strong farming base, but in the last several years there have been a lot of professional people moving to Oxford from the suburbs, changing the community dynamic. Schools Education is an important part of life in Oxford since more than 40% of the population has children under the age of 18 living in their homes. The town has two elementary schools, one middle school, and one newly built high school. Many of the children in the area attend private schools, as well.
